Interesting leather strap and spring arrangement. Can't say I've seen something like that before. What was it on?

It was on a 32 Ford. Got to see a lot of ingenuity today. Another gentleman plumbed copper pipes in place of heater hoses from the engine to the firewall (then it was rubber hose). The way he arranged it was just beautiful.
